The Second City Looks More Like Number One

After processing votes from 600,000 Conde Nast Traveler readers, Chicago slid into first place as the ‘Best Big City in the U.S.’ This is the third consecutive year Chicago has been ranked as the readers’ favorite–which begs the question: when are you planning your next visit?

In a statement made on Monday by Mayor Lori Lightfoot, “this wonderful recognition not only reflects the beauty and excitement of our great city but also our tourism industry’s dedicated efforts to attract people from across the country and around the globe,”

“Chicago will always roll out the welcome mat for visitors and continue showcasing the sights and sounds of our world-class institutions and cultural life throughout our dynamic neighborhoods and communities, as well as in our magnificent downtown.”

The magazine attributed a variety of factors to the win on their website, stating, “It’s no wonder Chicago is topping this list again. A world-class destination known for its impressive architecture, first-rate museums, brilliant chefs, and massive brewing scene, it’ll take several repeat visits to get through your list of must-dos.”

“Most people start with the downtown—from the Magnificent Mile, ritzy Gold Coast, and funky Old Town, not to mention the business-oriented Loop—but there are 77 neighborhoods to explore, where you’ll find cutting-edge restaurants, chilled-out corner bars, and, no matter where you go, some of the most pleasant people you’ll find anywhere.”

Wondering who else made the Best Big City list?

2. Minneapolis, MN
3. Boston, MA
4. New Orleans, LA
5. Washington, D.C.
6. San Diego, CA
7. New York, NY
8. Pittsburgh, PA
9. Honolulu, HI
10. San Antonio, TX
