When I started this blog, my intent was to share my journey through real estate as much as I could with anyone willing to read along. I’d like to hold myself accountable to this by sharing my 2018 sales results. So, if you’re nosy AF like me, carry on.
“The first step toward getting somewhere, is to decide you’re not going to stay where you are.”
As you may or may not know, I got on my feet with leasing at the very tail end of Chicago’s busy season, around mid-August. I distinctly remember being told when I was hired: “well, you’ve got about two or three more weeks left of busy season to get out there and crush it.” Unfortunately, trying to learn an entirely new industry–in two weeks–and make money doing it didn’t quite pan out. It’s now been 6 months.
This is by no means any form of bragging. As you’re about to see, the numbers are less than stellar. Although this is only a half-year’s worth of figures, I think it’s important to document. Keep in mind, I don’t keep the entire first month’s rent, so my take-home is literally a fraction of this. What continues to fuel me is the understanding that there is exponential growth opportunity in this industry; this is simply the learning curve.
So without further adieu, I present 2018 gross rents (sorted by date):

Total Gross Rents: $35,059
Highest Rent for a Single Property: $2295
Lowest Rent for a Single Property: $750
Total Booked Showings: 246
Total Rented Units: 24
Total Instagram Posts: 70
Total Read Emails: 1,539
Total Miles Driven: ~6,500
Total Parking Tickets: 3
Most Rented Neighborhoods: Ravenswood, Humboldt Park, Logan Square, Edgewater (three rentals each)
Least Rented Neighborhoods: Albany Park, Mayfair, Jefferson Park, West Loop, Wicker Park, Bucktown (all one rental each)
So, what does that mean for 2019? Pure manifestation:
Here’s to $150,000 (and beyond) in gross rents for 2019. Cheers!
xx
Cory
